Bring Fido: The Best Places to Take Dogs in Sarasota

It’s no secret that Sarasota is paradise for puppies. There are more dog-friendly places in Sarasota than we can count!

As Visit Sarasota puts it, “… wet noses and sandy paws are always welcome in Sarasota.”  Trust us, Fido will love it.

Really, the number one thing to know is that there are rules when it comes to dogs and public beaches. If you love playing in the waves at Lido Beach or Siesta Key, leave Fido at home or arrange for day boarding. That said, the options in Sarasota County are endless for dogs and their human companions.

Check out these 5 ideas for the best places to take dogs in Sarasota. Get ready for a perfect doggy date!

1. Stroll through Bayfront Park and across the Ringling Bridge.

Located along beautiful Sarasota Bay, Bayfront Park is a favorite stop for dog owners who love waterfront views. The sights and sounds of the marina make for hours of puppy playtime. Just remember to keep your pooch on a leash!

Pro Tip: For a perfect puppy date, consider lunch at O’Leary’s Tiki Bar  followed by a walk across Ringling Bridge.

2. Dine at St. Armand’s Circle followed by a stroll through Bird Key.

St. Armand’s Circle is a doggy dream come true. On any given afternoon, you can find a number of pooches lounging at their human’s feet, lapping up a cool, restaurant- provided bowl of water.

Stella’s personal favorite restaurant is Cha Cha Coconuts. But her friends tell me Tommy Bahama, Crab & Fin and Columbia are all wonderful places to get scratches from puppy lovers.

After lunch, consider a leisurely stroll along beautiful Bird Key. This must-visit destination for dog owners offers a beautiful walking trail  with breathtaking views of the Sarasota skyline. And if you’re up for a dip, dogs are often seen swimming in the crystal clear waters with their owners.

3. Meander through Celery Fields.

If you’re looking to combine stunning scenery with canine companionship, Celery Fields is the perfect place to bond with your pooch. Plus, it’s one of the best birdwatching sites in the area.

A part of the Great Florida Birdwatching Trail, Celery Fields is a several hundred acre recreational site and stormwater collection zone. You’ll find trails, wetlands and towering trees.

Whether you’re exploring the sites or picnicking with your pooch, Celery Fields promises a memorable adventure for both you and Fido.

Side Note: Always watch for alligators when you’re exploring with your furry friend. Don’t get too close to ponds, especially in less- trafficked areas.

4. Take your pooch for a “me day” at Venice dog beach.

Every time we go to Brohard Paw Park, Stella doesn’t want to leave. Whether she’s romping through the sand with a poodle or playing in the waves with a retriever, she always makes friends.

Pro Tip: Bring your puppy’s favorite shampoo and an extra towel. There’s a helpful dog shower available on-site. Bye-bye sandy car experience!

5. Check out Boo’s Dog Bar.

Stella‘s favorite memory is going to dog yoga at Boo’s Ice House & Dog Bar. She still barks about it. Check out Boo’s events calendar. They offer live music, Bingo and even singles nights.

Pro Tip: Be sure to register your dog before visiting Boo’s Dog Bar. Proof of vaccinations are required in advance.

Sarasota is a paradise for dog owners. Whether you’re exploring scenic parks, romping on Venice Beach or dining in St. Armand’s Circle with Fido by your side, Sarasota promises unforgettable adventures and cherished memories for you and your canine bestie. So leash up your pooch and get ready to embark on a paw-some journey that you and your canine companion will cherish for years to come.
